Jason is thinking of a number. He adds 8, multiplies by 2, subtracts 4,and then divides by 2. The result is twenty-four. What number is Jason thinking of?

18 + 8 = 26
26 * 2 = 52
52 - 4 = 48
48 / 2 = 24

Think of the number x
He adds 5 ---- x+8
multiplies by 2 ---- 2x+16
subtracts 4 ----- 2x+12
divides by 2 ---- x+6

So the result is 6 more than the number Jason was thinking of.
