Why can't the united states make as much money as they want?

The U.S. government could print as much money as it wants -- but who would want it? If you get a one dollar bill, you expect it to be worth a dollar when you spend it. However, if the government printed lots more money, your dollar bill wouldn't be worth much and wouldn't much.
