Winter’s frosty fingers

are loosening their cling.
They held ground in an icy grip
but are letting go for spring.

I decide to go out walking
into the warming air.
I am looking for signs of spring
but the world looks gray and bare.

I need to look more closely
I need to be more still
Oh, look, I finally see something—
a golden daffodil!

Now walking down the lane
I see tiny buds on trees.
The leaves inside will all come out
after winter’s final freeze.

Then I see a purple flower
popping up from underneath the snow.
Its wet pedals shine like diamonds
giving me a sparking show.

A robin hops from behind a tree
looking for worms to eat.
He pecks the ground and winks at me
as he gulps down his tasty treat.

Now I know finding the signs of spring
is easy if you quiet down your mind.
Just be patient, take your time.
You will be amazed at all the signs you find.
