With someone, I have to brainstorm the ways that the steam engine would change society.

Steam engines took workers out of their homes and into factories where steam engines provided the power. This disrupted family living, especially since factory laborers worked long hours six days a week. Even children were employed in factories.

The steam engine would burn off water instead of anything toxic, it could be used usefully in factories by the factory workers-would help factory workers maintain better work progress, solve the growing power needs of industry, produce lots of power with some what little waste, work would be easier and done faster,
