Charlemagne, also known as Charles the Great, was a medieval ruler who became the King of the Franks in 768 and went on to become the first Holy Roman Emperor in 800. He is known for his military conquests and efforts to unite much of Western Europe under his rule. Charlemagne was a devout Christian and also promoted education and cultural revival during his reign. He is considered one of the most important rulers in European history and his empire had a significant impact on the development of Western civilization.
