The Mother's reaction to the traffic jam is anxious and worried about the kids. When sitting in the car the mother says, The mother drew herself up. '“We’ll have to get something to eat,” she said and called over to her husband standing in the road, “Can’t you get some food for the children?”' (Desai 479-480). This explains that she is worried about the children and wants them to be fed. Also when sitting in the car the mother states, "'Suddenly the mother wailed, “We’ll be here all night,” and the baby woke crying: it had had enough of being confined in the suffocating heat; it wanted air, it wanted escape."' (Desai 479). This proves that the mother is worried that the children will suffer from heat stroke. I think this also proves that she cares and is worried that the children won't be comfortable and overheat while sitting in the car.
