I'd spend it on energy conservation. How about you?

Water resources are a major issue right now, and the situation is getting worse. Much progress needs to me made in reclaiming polluted lakes and rivers, conserving fresh water and recycling waste water. Atmospheric pollution and energy conservation are already being pursued aggressively by scientists and engineers.
One area of energy conservation that could yield breakthroughs is the use of sunlight to produce hydrogen and/or hydrocarbons from water and CO2, without going through the agricultural step of making alcohol from crops. You could call it artificial photosynthesis.
