First, you must use appropriate capitalization and punctuation. Example: Tim O'Brien's The Things They Carried
What does this book mean to YOU? You could convey your feelings on your poster. Is it war and tragedy? Is it the memory of the inconsequential things they carried?
One thought -- you could put a few actual items (ex., M & M's ) on your poster. You could also tie in more abstract things with pictures.
