how do i change 30.50 in^2 to mm^2

my conversion sheet says its
1 inch =25.4mm

So i did the following:

30.50in^2 * 25.4mm =774.7mm

but i don't know if i should square it or not?.. im confused please help

1 inch =25.4mm. That is right.

But when squaring, you have to square both the units _and_ the numbers, so

1 inch = 25.4 mm

(1 inch)^ = (25.4mm)^2

(1^2) inch^2 = (25.4^2) mm^2

1 in^2 = 645.16 mm^2

Or think of it this way:

Draw a 3-inch line. That's 3 inches.

Now make a square from it with 3 inches on each side. How many square inches is that?
