how much tension must a rope withstand if it is used to accelerate a 1200-kg car vertically upward at .80 m/s^2?

Force required to accelerate the car vertically = m * (v^2)

= 1200 * (0.8^2)

= 1200 * 0.64

This force will be equal to the tension on the rope.
