In an amoeba, food particles are taken in through phagocytosis, where the cell membrane surrounds and engulfs the food. Digestive enzymes are then released into the food vacuole to break down the food into nutrients, which are absorbed by the cell. In a mouse, food is taken in through the mouth where it is broken down by chewing and mixed with digestive enzymes in the stomach to further break down the food into nutrients. These nutrients are then absorbed in the small intestine and transported to cells throughout the body for energy and growth.
