Meteor
1 answer
A meteor is a small celestial body that enters the Earth's atmosphere and burns up upon entry, creating a bright streak of light in the sky. It is commonly known as a shooting star or falling star. Meteors are usually fragments from asteroids or comets that have broken apart due to gravitational forces. They are typically composed of rock and metal and vary in size from grains of sand to objects several meters in diameter. Most meteors disintegrate completely before reaching the Earth's surface, but occasionally larger ones can survive the atmospheric entry and reach the ground, causing an impact. These larger meteors are called meteorites.
