1. Served two tours of duty in Vietnam as a military advisor and was injured in a helicopter crash.

7. Promoted to four-star general and served as the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 1989 to 1993.

1. Became the first African American to serve as the U.S. Secretary of State under President George W. Bush from 2001 to 2005.
2. Played a crucial role in shaping the U.S. foreign policy during the Gulf War.
3. Advocated for the expansion of NATO and the establishment of a strong coalition against terrorists after the 9/11 attacks.
4. Received numerous awards and honors, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian award.
5. Published several books, including his autobiography "My American Journey" and "It Worked for Me: In Life and Leadership," sharing his wisdom and experience with others.
