In 3-5 sentences, explain how gravity causes Earth's tides.

1 answer

Gravity causes Earth's tides through the gravitational pull between the Earth and the Moon. The Moon's gravity exerts a force on the water on Earth's surface, creating a bulge in the ocean on the side of the Earth closest to the Moon. This creates a high tide. At the same time, on the opposite side of the Earth, there is also a high tide due to the centrifugal force caused by the Earth-Moon system's rotation. The areas in between these high tides experience low tides.
