Question

I'm trying to solve this Pythagorean Theorom problem.

x^2+(2x^2)=32^2
which becomes
5x^2=1024

I don't get how the x^2 and the 2x^2 combine to get 5x^2. I think it should be 3x^2. Can you explain? Thanks!

The way it is written, is should be 3x^2

are you certain the second term is not (2x)^2 ?
