Do you mean to distribute them like 9*70 + 9*3?

Distributive property for multiplication over addition means that when a numer N multiplies the sum of two numbers, the result is the same as the sum of the number N multiplied by the individual numbers.
Take your example,
9*(73) = 657
But
9*(73) = 9*70 + 9*3 = 630 + 27 =657
The fact that they are equal doing the multiplication either way is due to the distributive property of multiplication over addition.
