How do you know when to use cos or sin or tan when they give you angles in the question to find tension or force?

You look at the sides given.
sin x = side opposite/hypotenuse
cos x = side adjacent/hypotenuse
tan x = side opposite/side adjacent
sin x = side opposite/hypotenuse
cos x = side adjacent/hypotenuse
tan x = side opposite/side adjacent
