With any MS Office program, you should press the F1 key and type in your question. (The F1 key is the universal "help" key.)
Once you find the directions for adding sound, you can print out the directions to make it easier to follow them and work in the PowerPoint file at the same time.

I tried to do the same thing and could not, I had to use windows movie maker instead, turned out great!
