Orientalism is not a term that's used by most people. It basically means anything connected with Asia. Remember that Asia includes a large number of diverse cultures and nations -- Japan, Russia, India, Vietnam, Myanmar (Burma), Afghanistan, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Korea, China, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Turkey, etc. In my opinion, Orientalism has nothing to do with prejudice against Muslims and Arabs.
I think your Axia class is the only class in any college that uses Said's "Orientalism" as a source. It is not a mainstream book. I'd refuse to answer this question because it's a terribly biased and unsubstantiated source.
Check this site for more information.

I think this question is ridiculous it should at least tell where to find the information. Encarta built into my word program does not even recognize Orientalism as a word so that should tell us something.

Ms.Sue, are you suppose to be a teacher? how can you refuse to answer this question on Orientalism if you are a real teacher. This is a psychology class asking this question and it must be to hard for you to understand why they ask questions like this.

Ms. Sue has been very helpful on a number of questions posted on this site. Maybe this is just something she feels strongly about. Back off a little bit and try researching your work. People like Ms. Sue are here to give guidance and critique YOUR OWN work. There is no reason to be hateful.

Amanda she is not refusing the question because she does not understand it, or because she is just refusing. She is saying this answer is unfair and if she was that student she would refuse to answer the question because she believes is biased and kind of sounds like it is stereotyping those groups, which I would agree is not fair. She did give other sites to help the person if they needed to. She gave as much information as she could but I agree I would refuse to give an answer to this question because it seems so biased and just plain dumb sounding. However, maybe more clarification from the students actual teacher about the question asked might help, but I can't really tell.
