Question
Will someone please let me know if these answers are correct or not? If there not can you help me with them? Thanks so much in advance ;-)
1. In a tetrahedral molecule, how many unshared pairs of valence electrons does the central atom have?
a. None
b. One
c. Two
d. Three
e. Four
I believe this one is A- None, is that correct?
2. What determines the polarity of a bond?
a. Electronegativity difference only
b. Molecular shape only
c. Both a and b
d. Neither a nor b
e. More information is needed
I put A- electronegativity difference only, is that right?
3. What determines the polarity of a molecule?
a. Electronegativity difference only
b. Molecular shape only
c. Both a and b
d. Neither a nor b
e. More information is needed
For this one I put C- both A and B, is that correct?
4. Compared to the particles of a gas, the particles of a liquid
a. Are not in constant motion
b. Collide with the sides of the container, but not with each other
c. Do not completely fill their container
d. Can move longer distances
e. Have more space between the molecules
I believe this is C- do not completely fill their container, is that correct?
5. Compared to ionic and covalent bonds, the strength of intermolecular forces are
a. Substantially greater
b. Slightly greater
c. Slightly less
d. Substantially less
e. The same
I am stuck on this one, I think it’s either C or D, but I am leaning more towards D- substantially less, is that right or no?
6. The strength of temporary dipole attractions
a. Increases with the size of molecules
b. Decreases with the size of molecules
c. Is greater than other intermolecular forces
d. Is greater than intramolecular forces (ionic and covalent bonds)
e. Is the same for all types of substances
I believe this is A- increases with the size of molecules, is that right?
7. Which of the following is not a property of gases?
a. Gases can be compressed into smaller spaces
b. Gases diffuse throughout other gases
c. Gases exert pressure on objects
d. Gases are weightless near the surface of the earth
e. Gases have low densities
I think this is either A or D, but I need some one’s opinion, please help?

a. 345 torr
b. 0.454 torr
c. 262,000 torr
d. 3.40 torr
e. 23.5 torr
I believe this is A- 345 torr, is that correct?

a. 760 cmHg
b. 1 atm
c. 101.325 kPa
d. 101,325 Pa
e. 14.7 Ib/in.2
I have A- 760 cmHg, is that right?

Answers
3 is ok but I don't like the answers, mostly the word ONLY. Only is ok for answer a since it isn't just a and it is ok for answer b since it isn't just b, BUT when a and b are put together, the obvious answer, the word ONLY doesn't fit. The prof should have put in more thought on this.
5. Your leaning is ok. D is correct.
7. D.
The others are correct.
