the speaker's chair in the house of commons is large and imposing, much like a throne. Why might this be the case?

I think just to show authority, do you know why?

Isn't the speaker of the House of Commons almost as important as the queen and the prime minister?
Answered by ANNA
oh yes of course. so the speaker of the house of commons holds the same position as a prime minister and queen on its throne.

is this correct
Answered by Ms. Sue
Well -- I'm not sure he's just as important as the queen and p.m. -- but he is probably third in importance -- and deserves a throne-like chair.

thanks:-)

oh, but why is it important that the speaker be impartial?
Answered by Ms. Sue
Since the speaker is conducting the meeting in the House of Commons, he needs to be impartial to make sure that all view points can be expressed.
