The same for THE SAME X ????

y = x^2 is a function
if x = 1, y = 1
if x = -1 , y = 1
still a function!

I believe we need two y values for one x to disqualify as a function.

No, because two of the y-values are the same.

You are correct. In order for a relation to be considered a function, each x-value must have exactly one corresponding y-value. The fact that two different x-values have the same y-value does not disqualify it as a function.
