In three to five sentences, explain to a ten year old how the cotton gin led to conflict between the North and South.

1 answer

The cotton gin was a machine invented by Eli Whitney that helped separate seeds from cotton fibers more quickly. It made it easier for farmers in the South to produce a lot more cotton. This increased the demand for enslaved people to work on the cotton plantations, leading to more slaves being brought to the South. The North, however, was against slavery and wanted to abolish it, which led to disagreements and conflicts between the two regions.
