first expand
7y - 14 + 8 = 3y - 12 - 2
simplify
7y - 6 = 3y - 14
add 6 to both sides and subtract 3y from both sides
7y - 3y - -14 + 6
4y = -8
now divide both sides by 4
y = -2
7y - 14 + 8 = 3y - 12 - 2
simplify
7y - 6 = 3y - 14
add 6 to both sides and subtract 3y from both sides
7y - 3y - -14 + 6
4y = -8
now divide both sides by 4
y = -2
