If someone has already filed a suit, you could try to make a compromise with the complainant and keep it from coming to court.

Easy. Convince them you have no assets, and no likelihood of ever having any. Or perhaps convince them you are a vengeful serial killer. Just kidding. The best way is mediation, in my opinion.
