one mile = 1.609344 km
= 1609.344 m
so the excess distance over the 1500 m race
= (1609.344 - 1500) m
= 106.344 m
as a percentage that would be
109.344/1500 = .0728 or appr. 7.3%
= 1609.344 m
so the excess distance over the 1500 m race
= (1609.344 - 1500) m
= 106.344 m
as a percentage that would be
109.344/1500 = .0728 or appr. 7.3%

There are several ways to figure this problem. I took the easy way and converted 100 meters to miles at this site
http://www.metric-conversions.org/length/meters-to-miles.htm
1500 meters = 0.932 mile
1 - 0.932 = 0.068
0.068 = 6.8%
http://www.metric-conversions.org/length/meters-to-miles.htm
1500 meters = 0.932 mile
1 - 0.932 = 0.068
0.068 = 6.8%
