In 3–5 sentences, construct a summary of the process of gene expression, starting with DNA and ending with proteins

1 answer

Gene expression is the process by which genetic information encoded in DNA is used to synthesize proteins. It starts with the transcription of DNA into messenger RNA (mRNA) in the nucleus, where the DNA sequence is copied. The mRNA then moves out of the nucleus into the cytoplasm, where it is translated by ribosomes into a specific sequence of amino acids, forming a protein. The resulting protein carries out a variety of biological functions in cells and organisms.
