What do you mean some of the changes the United States has made to policies... I know of no "policies" the US has on treatment of any ethnic or religious societies, in fact, it is unconstitutional to have any such policies that do not conform to the US constitution. Thelast revelent constitutional change was mid last century, during the US Civil war.
