How do you find the etymology for example of the word panic?
In any dictionary (in print or online) there should be a section, often in brackets, that gives you the history of the word.
Go here: http://www.answers.com/panic
Scroll down to just below the definitions, and you'll find the etymology in brackets.
In addition, here's this: http://www.etymonline.com/
