“I can’t imagine how I will gather all of these acorns by the time the first frost comes around,” a small squirrel whispered to himself. He carried three acorns back to his tree. One branch higher, a bumblebee was worrying about collecting nectar from all of the flowers before the summertime ended. He’d managed to visit only three flowers but was exhausted.
Both creatures felt hopeless in their separate journeys. To clear his mind, the bumblebee took a casual loop around the tree, looking to see what the other creatures were doing. While he was buzzing about, he noticed the squirrel who was hopping quickly from branch to branch.
“Hello there, squirrel!” the bumblebee shouted, flying closer to the squirrel.
“Hi, Bumblebee! I’m afraid I don’t have time to chat, I must prepare for the winter!” the squirrel said. The bee was surprised to see the squirrel seeming as worried as he did about the season change.
“What do you have to do to prepare?” Bumblebee asked curiously.
“I must gather as many acorns as I can before they are all buried in snow or frozen!” the squirrel replied. Excited, the bumblebee responded, “I have to collect nectar from the flowers so that I can make honey! Do you want to travel together?”
The squirrel immediately felt much better. “Of course! A friend’s company will make this task so much more fun!”
Together, the two set off to prepare for the winter, laughing and chatting the whole way.
