CLAIM 1: We should support our local shops and farms.
Reason: Local businesses help stimulate the local economy and contribute to the overall well-being of the community.
Evidence: Research has shown that when consumers choose to frequent local businesses, a larger portion of their money stays within the community compared to shopping at chain stores. According to a study conducted by Civic Economics, for every $100 spent at a local business, about $68 stays within the community, while only $43 stays if spent at a non-local business. This retained revenue then has a greater chance of circulating within the community, supporting other local businesses, local jobs, and essential services such as schools and healthcare facilities.
