Question

I have a world population of 1591000000 in 1950 and a population of 4028000000 in 2000. I need to know the percent of increase.
First I subtract 1591 from 4028= 2,437,000,000 and then I divide that by 1,591,000,000, which equals 1.53174104336.
Where do I go from here?

You have a good start. To make 1.53174104336 into percent form, multiply by 100:

100*1.53174104336 = 153.174104336%
