All lines parallel to
3x+y=5
can be written as
3x+y=k
where k is a value to be found.

Since it passes through (4,-2), we only have to substitute x=4, and y=-2 into the general equation:
3(4)+ (-2) =k
from which we obtain k=12-2=10
Thus the required line is
3x+y = 10
If you have a list of choices:
A. y = -3x - 2
B. y=-3x+10
C. y=1/3x-10/3
D. y=3x-14
which one would you choose?
