Both act as diuretics and cause the body to dehydrate. That's why, when there are heat advisories, people are advised to avoid alcohol and high-caffeine drinks (coffee, sodas, etc.). Apparently, tea doesn't have nearly the amount of caffeine in it that coffee and colas do.
