Twelve-year-old Andrew Holleman learned, in 1987, that a wetland near his Massachusetts town was to be drained so homes could be built. The 17-acre site was home to wild orchids, red fox, and other species. Andrew organized the people of the community to oppose the destruction. They raised funds and petitioned the local zoning board to refuse the building permit. The homes were not built and now Andrew is raising money so the town can buy and preserve the area.
