The Alabama Pinhoti Trail runs for about 130 miles (210 kilometers), from central Alabama to the Georgia state line, where it becomes the Georgia Pinhoti Trail. The Georgia Pinhoti Trail runs to Springer Mountain, the southern terminus for the Appalachian Trail. Dave Startzell, the head of the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, thinks that the Pinhoti has a lot going for it. "The Pinhoti Trail has plenty to offer in its own right, whether or not it is considered part of the Appalachian Trail," he says.
