1. The author writes a part of the book along with the plan for the entire book.
2. S/he submits these pages to one or more publishers. Sometimes, the author's agent will do these submissions.
3. When the proposal is accepted, the author then writes the book. S/he writes and rewrites, edits, and proofreads.
4. The author sends the completed manuscript, usually with a computer disk, to the publisher.
5. The publisher then has the manuscript proofread and edited.
6. The publisher sends the proofread and edited manuscript back to the author for his/her final approval.
7. The book is then printed, distributed, and sold to the public.
