                Which is the equation in standard form of the line that is perpendicular to 6x-8y=2 and contains (-1,4)?
a) x - 4y = -17
b) 4x + 3y = 8

    here is an easy way:
first of all I would reduce the given line to 3x - 4y = 1
since the slopes must be opposite reciprocals, the new equation must be
4x + 3y = c
the only one that has that pattern is b)
test if (-1,4) lies on it.
LS = -4 + 12 = 8 = RS
