What are the disadvantages to having a solo practice?

Overhead. Xray machines cost money.
Time off. You have to get someone to cover for you.
Personel. YOu have to hire the best, most well rounded folks...admin asst...insurance...nurses...because there is no or little backup.
I assume you're asking about a physician or dentist.

With a solo practice the doctor bears all of the cost of the office, equipment, and clerical help. She also is on call all of the time, whereas in a partnership, only one or two of the doctors are on call at a time.
