Scene: Inside a Public Taxi

(Matlala and Joice are sitting next to each other inside a public taxi. The taxi is crowded with people, and the noise from the street is audible. Matlala looks tired and is wearing worn-out clothes, while Joice appears well-dressed and carries an air of superiority.)

Matlala: (sighs) Well.

Joice: (smiling) How are you, Matlala?

Matlala: (pauses) I'm not that well, really.

Joice: (raises an eyebrow) Why? What's the matter?

Matlala: (looks down) The usual things, you know. Family trauma, struggling to make ends meet...

Joice: (sarcastically) Ah, the joys of life. How delightful. (pauses) How about you, Joice? How have you been?

Joice: (waves dismissively) Oh, I'm fine. The Lord is always on my side, you know.

Matlala: (smiles faintly) That's good to hear.

Joice: (leaning closer) Mmmh, it's been a long time, hasn't it?

Matlala: (nods) Yes, it has. I thought of you the other day, actually.

Joice: (curious) Why?

Matlala: (pauses) It's nice sometimes to reminisce, isn't it? To think back on old times.

Joice: (smirks) Absolutely. So, how's everything in your life?

Matlala: (shifts uncomfortably) Oh, you know, the usual struggles. But I'm trying my best.

Joice: (nonchalantly) Not bad, I suppose. Do you know how long it's been since we last met?

Matlala: (hesitates) Uuh, I'm not sure. How long?

Joice: (smiling triumphantly) Two years.

Matlala: (sighs) Long time indeed.

(Scene transitions to a factory setting where Joice works as a clerk. Matlala enters the factory, her worn-out clothes contrasting with the formal attire of the workers.)

Joice: (spotting Matlala) Well, well, look who decided to grace us with her presence today. Late as usual, I see.

Matlala: (ignoring Joice's snide comment) Sorry, ma'am. The taxi was late this morning.

Joice: (sarcastically) Ah, the taxi. Always the taxi, isn't it? Excuses, excuses.

(Matlala proceeds to her work station and begins checking if everyone is doing their job diligently. She approaches a worker who seems distracted.)

Matlala: (firmly) Hey, are you focused on your work? We need to meet the target for today.

Worker: (mumbling) Yeah, yeah, I'm trying.

Matlala: (disappointed) Trying isn't enough. We have to do better than just trying. This job is important for all of us.

(Scene ends with Matlala continuing to monitor the workers, her determination evident despite her disadvantaged circumstances.)
