Please explain why some pieces of iron are more magnetic than others are. THANK YOU!

Iron is a loose term. Seldom when we have pieces of iron, it is pure iron, many other things are added (carbon, molybdenum,titanium,copper, ...). If these pieces are of differing composition, then it is only the part of them that is "soft" iron that will get magnetic.
