(2) In his play, A Midsummer Night's Dream, his charater Lysander states, "The course of true love never did run smooth" (1.1.134). (3) His many portrayals of the hardships of lovers only serve to prove that the complications of love go beyond time periods. (4) Even more compelling, many of his love stories end in tragedy, which many audience members can relate to. (5) Overall, his overarching themes of love ensure that his plays will be played throughout the course of history.
