A monologue is a long speech made by a character to an audience during a play. Monologue are meant to expose secrets, reveal hidden feelings, or uncover emotions or describe plans for the future. Often the character making a monologue is confused or struggling to decide something. At times the character asks the audience questions looking for answers, opinions, or assistance yet does not expect a reply. A monologue poem is very similar to a monologue of a play. They usually include plays on words, alliteration, and/or rhyme. Make your monologue poem from the perspective of a famous person or fictional character (from a book or movie) that is in some way connected to your theme or one of your listed subtopics.

As I stand here in front of you all,
My emotions are running high, my mind in a crawl.
I am the greatest boxer of all time,
But even I have my moments of doubt and strife.

You see, I'm just like you,
I have hopes and dreams too.
But unlike most, I've made it to the top,
Through blood, sweat, and tears, I never stopped.

I've fought through adversity and pain,
I've overcome obstacles time and again.
But now, at the end of my career,
I'm struggling to come to terms with my fear.

What will life be like beyond the ring?
Will I still have purpose, will I still have meaning?
It's a daunting thought, but I must face it head-on,
For life goes on, even after the fights are gone.

So I'll take each day as it comes,
I'll cherish my memories, I'll never succumb.
For I am Muhammad Ali,
And my legacy will forever live on for all to see.
