A rectangular solid with the dimension 1m x 1m x 3m is divided into three equal cubes. How much is the surface area of this solid increased?
I did not understand the answer to when I first posted my question.

To get three 1x1x1 cubes, you have to make two cuts. This means there will be four new surface areas, one from each end cube and two from the middle cube.
