you started down in a hole
went up 1349 feet to ground
then went up ANOTHER 29035 feet from ground to top of the mountain
+5 - (-3) = 5 + 3 = + 8

1 - 1 = 0
1 - (-1) = 2

Difference in elevation = 29,035 ft - (-1,349 ft)
= 30,384 ft
