    Find the smallest number that the two denominators go into evenly.
Example:
7/8 + 1/16
16 is the common denominator because 16 is the smallest number divisible by 8 and 16.
16/8 = 2
Multiply the numerator by 2
7/8 = 14/16
    
Example:

16 is the common denominator because 16 is the smallest number divisible by 8 and 16.
