How would Earth be different without the greenhouse effect?

Without the greenhouse effect, Earth would be much colder. The average global temperature would be about 33°C (59°F) lower than it is today. This would make it difficult for most life forms to survive. The atmosphere would also be much thinner, with less oxygen and more carbon dioxide. The oceans would be much colder and the ice caps would be much larger.
