An invasive species is introduced that hunts all of the bug population, wiping out that food source for the birds, so all they are left with is seeds.

My answer; Genetic variation can save this species from extinction since sexual reproduction allows for the offspring to inherit a variety of traits. Many of the traits can help the species out in the wild and help them survive and hunt out for food.
