What is your impression of these two characters based on what Ponyboy has said about them and based on how they reacted to this situation?

My impression of these two characters is that they are both loyal and brave. Ponyboy has said that they are both loyal to their gang and willing to fight for what they believe in. They also showed courage in standing up to the Socs and defending Ponyboy. They are willing to put their own safety at risk to protect their friend.
