A student is writing a research report about types of landscaping. The student found a source. Read the source and select TWO claims that the author makes that are NOT supported by credible, or trustworthy, evidence.
Homeowners here have two options when it comes to landscaping their front yards. They can choose rock landscaping, or they can have a grass lawn. The rock landscaping is the better choice for several reasons.
First, choosing rock landscaping means choosing to use much less water every day. The average household with a lawn is watered with many gallons of water each day. A rock landscape uses less water because only the plants, trees, and bushes need a small amount of water they can get through a drip system a few days a week.
Second, rock landscaping is better for the environment. To keep grass growing nicely, a homeowner needs to use herbicides and pesticides, which are toxic chemicals that kill weeds and insects. These toxic chemicals run off and eventually end up in lakes and streams. Also, lawnmowers spew pollution into the air.
Third, keeping up a rock landscape is much less time–consuming than keeping up a lawn.
Fourth, when more people choose to have lawns, the less bees have to eat. When people put in rock, they tend to add bushes, plants, and trees with colorful flowers and fruits so that the yard does not look so plain. Grass yards do not attract bees and are the reason there are so many less bees in the world than there used to be.
Just think: if you choose rock landscaping, you will save money you otherwise would have spent on toxic chemicals and all that extra water. You may even end up saving time and some bees' lives too.
